Removal of Scaffolding

This is the latest view of Kylemore Abbey taken this morning and as you can see the scaffolding has now almost completely gone. The remainder will be taken away by this Friday. As well as extensive structural corrections which will help deal with issues of damp and leaking ceilings that have plagued the building for many years, an acid wash on the front of the building has brought it back it’s original stunning finish and it was positively glowing in this morning’s sunlight. A big thank you is surely deserved by the team who spent a long and cold winter often in appalling weather conditions working on the project and another thank you to our visitors who who continued to arrive and support Kylemore Abbey throughout this significant phase in our history.

Final Stage of Exterior Restoration begins

Please note that scaffolding has now been erected on the front of the Abbey as we enter the final stage of the external restoration project. This will complete works that have been in progress since October 2016. The project has focused on important structural  improvements dealing with long term issues such as damp and leaking ceilings etc . The Abbey building is now 150 years old and being  a complex listed building great care needs to be taken to maintain the integrity of the original structure. The work taking place now guarantees the future of Kylemore abbey which is no doubt a building of national importance.During this period the Abbey is open to visitors as usual. This phase of the project is expected to be completed by early spring. Please enquire to our Visitor Centre for further information.
