Galway Monopoly and Kylemore Connection

Racecourse, Kylemore or Latin Quarter?

The County Galway MONOPOLY ‘Big Reveal’ is nearly upon us!  It will be on 2nd October 2015 – official M Day (MONOPOLY day) – a date announced for the first time today.

That’s MONOPOLY launch day, when the board for the county will be revealed in full, as all 22 identities of the multi-coloured sites are revealed.

One landmark to ‘Pass GO’ is likely to be Kylemore Abbey – which will also be the launch location, it is first announced today.

A delighted Pat Lavelle, Chief Executive Officer at the west of Ireland’s most popular visitor attraction, says:

“We are extremely pleased that we have been asked to host the official launch of the Galway MONOPOLY board and looking forward to welcoming everyone to Kylemore.

“We hope very much that we have landed one of the top positions on the board.”

The Abbey is tipped for one of these spots but they have very stiff competition from The Latin Quarter and Galway Racecourse.

These three amassed “lots and lots” of public votes during polling in the spring, the board’s makers revealed today. “We are keeping everything under our MONOPOLY top hats and close to our Community Chests, so to speak,” said Rob Osborne from Winning Moves UK.

The launch will see one lucky Galway member of the public become a ‘VIP’ for the day.

Very Important Player, that is.

The MONOPOLY makers – celebrating the 80th anniversary of the world’s most popular board game – are inviting members of the public to write poems, ditties and verses on why they look forward to Galway being immortalised with its’ very own unique board.

The best entry will see its entrant invited to the official launch of the board on the very same morning it hits shop shelves and goes on sale worldwide online.

There has huge been interest from ex-pats and visitors from both the US and Italy, with stores across Galway having already made large advance orders. One store is even taking pre-orders from the public.

The winner will collect the first board produced (which will be signed) and also get to meet Mr MONOPOLY (the biggest VIP of them all!). The winner, Mr MONOPOLY and a representative of the Galway landmark that appears on the top Mayfair spot will get to play the first game.

In all, 22 MONOPOLY property sites will take on a Galway flavour and feel, with Chance and Community Chest playing cards heavily customised too. The four train stations from the original London board will take on a ‘travel’ theme.

MONOPOLY celebrates its’ 80th birthday this year, having first hit shop shelves in 1935.

Winning Moves are the makers of this unique board under official license from MONOPOLY owners Hasbro.

The new board will be available at all good toy and book stores from 2nd October (2015), including at Eason’s and Smyths. The board will also be very widely available online including amazon.co.uk
