Family Day Out

Kylemore Abbey is the perfect destination for a family day out. A magical 1,000-acre estate of woodland walks and a secret Walled Garden awaits your discovery. Children will love to discover our historic buildings and the people who over the years have become part of Kylemore's story. A millionaire, a Duke, Indian princesses and schoolgirls from all over the world are all fascinating to learn about. 

Little ones will enjoy cooking up some fairy stews and playing in our Wild Play area close to the Garden Tea House and don't forget to drop by and see our gorgeous Kune Kune pigs, Gloria and Ken, and the adorable Connemara ponies and foals frolicking in the pony paddock.

Make your wish at the Ironing Stone and take a peek through the windows of our Chocolate Kitchen! There are plenty of pocket money priced gifts to pick up in our Craft and Design shop and an ice-cream or hot chocolate in our Café or Tea House would go down very well. Fresh air, history, and discovery make lots of fun for everyone.

A child’s visit to Kylemore is all about discovery, exploration, nature, magic, and imagination on this extraordinary estate. A family trip to Connemara offers you beautiful Kylemore Abbey, where you can spend the day wandering through the restored rooms of the abbey, visiting the miniature cathedral, following the tree trail and exploring our extensive woodland and lakeshore walks. Don't forget to make a wish at the legendary Giant's Ironing Stone or experience a musical performance in our beautiful neo-Gothic Church. Children will enjoy gentle imaginative play in our Outdoor Play area next to the Garden Tea House where they can make stews for the wood fairies and play in hollows and dens just like you did when you were a child! Be sure to visit our friendly pigs and our Connemara ponies and foals who have their home just outside the Garden Walls. Why not fill up your picnic basket in Henry's Express Café and enjoy an al fresco lunch with your little ones!

The Kylemore Kitchen

The Kylemore Kitchen is the perfect place to eat when you are visiting Kylemore Abbey. The Kylemore Kitchen is a bright, spacious self-service café that prides itself on the best home cooked food, locally sourced produce including Connemara hill farm lamb and Atlantic Salmon and above all the best in home baking. We are rightly famed for our scones, brown bread, fruit crumbles and wide selection of tempting cakes and pastries. Plenty of healthy options from our homemade soups and quiches and delicious salad bar. Half price children’s portions and free baby bowls for toddlers aged 4 and under are available. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten free diets are catered for and there are lots of healthy options on our menus every day.

From November to March, visitors can also enjoy our delicious Sunday carvery lunches. There are several different options to choose from with all the trimmings.

Colouring sheets and storybooks are available for little ones to enjoy and we have a small play area at the back of the restaurant.
