Gospel Reflection for the Twenty-Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year A.
By The Benedictine Community
I shall live in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life.(Psalm 22)
This gospel has a particular relevance at this time when Pope Francis has just extended Christ's invitation to all: 'todos, todos, todos'. Echoing Christ's universal invitation to good and bad alike, into the kingdom of heaven.
Not only is the invitation extended to those especially chosen, but should the invitation be refused others will be invited instead. One way or another his hall will be filled..
Once into the wedding hall, there is however, a essential condition for further admittance - a wedding garment. Here we must think deeply because we are not told what the garment consists of and what it does not consist of.
The Church Fathers designate charity specifically. Jesus own words inspire us: Many sins are forgiven her, because she has loved much.(Luke 7:47). Paul confirms Jesus' words: Meanwhile these three remain: faith, hope and love; and the greatest of these is love. (1 Cor; 13,13)
