Tasteand see the goodness of the Lord. (Psalm 33)

Jesus' Bread of Life Discourse continues and reaches its climax in the next two Sundays. He patiently draws parallels between the man and their ancestors received in the desert and a new form of manna God was going to give them. But the new manna required absolute faith in Himself, a faith drawn from his teachings, his miracles and from his power over unclean spirits. In other words from all the Messianic signs that he demonstrated.

Living as we do over two millennia later, we can regret that we cannot see the historical Jesus, hear his voice, feel his touch and know his wonderful gaze upon us. On the other hand we can consider ourselves fortunate that this first century faith is not required of those of us who received our faith from devout ancestors and dedicated nuns and priests.

Put to the test, would I have believed in Jesus of Nazareth? I am not too sure!

Praise God from whom all blessings flow!
