Gospel Reflection for the First Sunday of Lent, Year B.

Your ways, O Lord, are love and truth,
to those who keep your covenant. (Psalm 24)
Mark gives us only a brief description of Jesus' temptation in the desert which allows us to make our own reflections from a few basic facts. First of all, the Spirit drove Jesus into the wilderness for forty days after his baptism where he was tempted. This was the preparation for his mission of salvation: to break the power of Satan over suffering humanity. Mark does not go into details about how Jesus overcomes temptation but we know he does from the closing verses. Jesus proclaims the Good News; the time has come, the kingdom of God is close at hand. Repent and believe the Good News.
Jesus himself is the Good News; all glory and praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. Happy Lent!
