The vineyard of the Lord is the house of Israel. (Psalm 79)

Our Lord's chilling warning at the end of this gospel has an eternal application as well as a most individual one. Each one of us can and perhaps should read: 'The kingdom of God will be taken from me and given to someone else who will produce its fruit.'

The first and most important fruit of the kingdom is Remembrance of God. Next we do well to remember that though we are a fallen race; He not only brought us into being, but He bestowed upon us every good gift we enjoy. As His creatures, redeemed children of a loving Creator, our most fitting response is to know, love and serve,  then finally to live in an eternity of happiness with Him. His Son, our Redeemer Jesus Christ, teaches us how.
