Gospel Reflection, The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity
By The Benedictine Community
Happy the people the Lord has chosen as his own. (Psalm 32)
In Matthew's Gospel today we meet the post-Resurrection triumphant Jesus, He has now returned to the Father and resumed His place as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. While most of the Eleven, appropriately, bow down before him, we are told that 'some hesitated'. Such is the obduracy of our human nature! Nevertheless, Jesus confirms his absolute Lordship and gives his commands: 'Go, make disciples of all the nations, baptize them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and teach them to observe all the commands I gave you.'
Jesus' timeless, eternal word has remained in his Church ever since and remains as powerful, as true, as efficacious as it did when he commanded his disciples. He accompanied it with the sublime guarantee: 'And know that I am with you always, yes, to the end of time.'
Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today, forever.
