Gospel Reflection for the Twenty Second Sunday of Ordinary Time, Year B.

He who does justice will live in the
Presence of the Lord. (Psalm 14)
In today’s hard-hitting Gospel, Jesus teaches the difference between God’s law and
human rules and regulations which the religious authorities had elevated to the status of God’s laws.
God’s Law, codified in the Ten Commandments remains the first and greatest Law ever written, even after
thousands of years.
Jesus teaches that goodness flows from within a person, from a good heart and it is purity of heart that we
strive for in all our monastic practices. Our best and most effective means of acquiring this essential virtue is the
Eucharist. Regular reception of the sacraments is the Lord’s own gift and remedy for all his faithful followers.
As Christians we have only to follow our Master, the Way, the Truth and the Light.
