Gospel Reflection for the Thirtieth Sunday of Ordinary Time, Year B.
By The Benedictine Community
The Lord has done great things for us;
we are filled with joy. (Psalm 125)
I love this gospel story of Bartimaeus. His faith in the power of Jesus to heal is an example we can all follow. First we must know our need for healing: easy enough if we are physically blind, but not so easy if we are spiritually blind. Then whatever our sickness, place all our faith in the power of Jesus to heal us. Like Bartimeaus, use discouragements as fuel for greater faith and a more insistent prayer. With faith undiminished, when Jesus called him he jumped up, throwing off his cloak and had his answer ready when Jesus questioned him. 'What do you want me to do for you?'
Are we so ready to respond promptly to Jesus' questions?
In these dark days let us keep our faith alive and active and be very, very vigilant.
