Gospel Reflection for the Sixteenth Sunday of Ordinary Time, Year B
By The Benedictine Community
The Lord is my shepherd,
there is nothing I shall want. (Psalm 22)
We see Jesus at the height of his teaching ministry. But whereas he has great consideration for his weary disciples, he himself cannot ignore the desperate spiritual needs of the crowd who are following him. So, forgetting his own weariness, out of his passionate charity, he 'set himself to teach them at some length.'
The theme in the readings this week is the good shepherd and we have in Jesus the perfect model and exemplar of the Good Shepherd. May we follow in his footsteps and ask him to bless our feeble efforts.
