Gospel Reflection for the Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year C.
By The Benedictine Community
Happy are those who hope in the Lord. ((Psalm 39:5)
In the Beatitudes we read today Jesus addresses his disciples specifically., quite distinctly from the Twelve and the large crowd who had.gathered from all over Israel, Judaea and beyond.
Luke says:
Then fixing his eyes on his disciples he said:
How happy are you who are poor: yours is the kingdom of God...........'
We can number ourselves among Jesus' disciples to whom he is addressing this message. However, it is definitely not the message we want to hear!
We are left in this spiritual dilemma. Jesus, I trust in you, but in life's afflictions, poverty, loneliness or sickness, stay very close and support me. Be the Kingdom of God for me.
