Gospel Reflection for the Twenty First Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year B.
By The Benedictine Community
Tasteand see the goodness of the Lord. (Psalm 33)
ThisSunday is the climax of the Bread of Life Discourses when Jesus gives us thekey to understanding his 'intolerable language.' At this point many of hisfollowers leave, unable to accept that spiritual realities are as real asphysical ones. Then, as now, accepting the reality of the Body and Bloodof Christ in the Eucharist is a gift of faith to be cherished and nurtured.
OurLord gives us the answer from heaven:
'Itis the spirit that gives life,
theflesh has nothing to offer.
Thewords I have spoken to you are spirit
andthey are life.'
Lord,increase my faith.
